Passing of Seán Stewart

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that Stewart Construction announces the death of our esteemed former Chairman Seán Stewart, a devoted family man and a leading light in the Irish Construction Industry.

Seán graduated as a Civil Engineer from NUI Galway in 1963 and followed in the footsteps of his father Jack Stewart, and grandfather James Stewart in the family business. Seán became a Director of James Stewart Limited in May 1966 and a Director of Stewart Construction in 1984 and remained a Director until 2023, when he retired as the Chairman of Stewart Construction.

During his time at the helm,  Seán steadily grew the family business in Salthill, into one of Irelands top contracting firms. He successfully navigated the company through some harsh trading conditions for our Industry, particularly in the 1980’s along with surviving recessions.

He was always a pioneer of modern technology and new work systems and never afraid to advance same for the betterment of his Clients and projects. He was unrelenting when it came to quality and never compromising on same, a legacy he has left behind forever.

He will be remembered in the Construction Industry for his passion and dedication for the Industry, shown by the various boards and committees he served on over the years.

We ask you to please keep the Stewart family in your thoughts, as they go through this difficult time.

He will be sadly missed by his Family and Friends and all his colleagues at Stewart Construction.
