Video: Stewart works on GRIFOLS Logistic Centre good news for unemployed!

In 2013, the Catalan Pharmaceutical Company GRIFOLS announced that they were building their first facility in Ireland.

Stewart commenced on the project in early 2014 and are now in full swing delivering the 230000 sq.ft. plant with over 500 construction workers currently employed on site in the IDA Business Park in Grange Castle, Dublin.

The €35m International Logistics Centre has been developed for the storage and distribution of various blood plasma products, along with plasma screening, stabilisation and research laboratories and a 3 storey administration office block for Grifols Worldwide Operations.

The pharmaceutical industry has been a key area for economic growth and recovery in Ireland and one of the most important contributions that the pharmaceutical industry makes is the direct employment of 25,000 people in the manufacturing sector and at least another 25,000 people indirectly employed in serving the sector to include the construction of new facilities as seen here on Stewart construction site.

The jobs are highly sustainable and many companies have invested repeatedly in facilities, adding value over time as companies tend to reinvest in Ireland because they have had a good experience here.
Stewart have been implementing the Clause 5A ‘Social Clause’ on its construction sites, in conjunction with the Department of Social Protection. This clause has been developed to promote employment and incentive businesses who actively employ long-term jobseekers.

Through this process Stewart have been successful in achieving the contractual target percentage of providing employment to suitable candidates who had been on the national unemployment register for period of at least 12 months. This was achieved by close co-operation and liaison with the DoSP. This took the form of initial meetings with the DoSP to identify the areas where resources were required and subsequent candidate selection followed. Stewart found the DoSP to be extremely helpful and proactive in this process and have built up a strong working relationship with them and, as a result, continue to use the DoSP data base as part of the company’s overall recruitment process. The process has afforded the opportunity for workers who found themselves unemployed during the downturn to find a pathway back to employment in an industry which is now showing positive signs of growth and stability.
